Mechanical force gauges are suitable for less demanding measuring tasks to determine tensile or compressive forces. The mechanical dynamometer works according to the spring principle and shows the force acting on the measuring shaft on an analogue circular scale.
The movable measuring shaft is moved in the same direction for determining the tensile and compressive forces. For taring, the scale can be turned to the respective pointer position.
With the help of a locking button, the pointer is locked at the maximum force (simple drag pointer function / peak). When selecting the measuring range, bear in mind that the spring will recoil in fracture or tear tests, which can lead to a drastic deterioration in the measuring accuracy.
Therefore, mechanical devices should not be stressed with more than 60% of the measuring range in such tests.
